“ Body language is all those signs and all that communication that isn’t conveyed in words. Very often it is even more important than the words themselves, as it allows us to understand if our interlocutor really thinks what he is saying. “

For your audience you could do a lot of things in a different ways, but use positive or neutral body language could have a devastating impact on the audience’s sub-consciousness.

  • look up: thinking & processing info cover nose. Looking up can sometimes be a sign of boredom, but it is often misinterpreted. In fact, many people need to process information elsewhere than the interlocutor.

  • mouth: The mouth, after the eyes, represents a very communicative part of the body even if often the signals we send out by torturing the lips are not easy to interpret. Bringing the fingers to the lips (all except the thumb) is a common movement that hides a mood of anxiety or sadness. Generally what causes this feeling is a secret, something to hide that somehow takes away our serenity. The greater the part of the lips hidden by the fingers, the greater our will to hide the secret.
  • lips: A very common gesture is to tighten the lips by bringing them inwards. It is an act that we owe to our primitive ancestors: it derives from the intention to bring food residues towards the mouth. Over time this gesture has taken on the meaning of “bringing inward” what is good in a broad sense, the emotions and experiences that make us feel good. Putting the lips outwards as if we wanted to kiss is a gesture that derives from the act of sucking the baby. A signal that arises instinctively, as adults, in response to pleasant stimuli.
  • feet: disappointing orientation of the chest to the most important thing in the room Psychology says that people who lie to you tend to look up and to their left. Foot pointing conveys interest and/or attraction because of two reasons. This gesture is an attempt to reduce the personal space between the people involved. It almost looks like the person is ‘beginning to walk’ towards that which interests them.
